European Association for the Study of Obesity – Novo Nordisk Foundation Obesity Prize and Awards for Scientific Excellence Announced
Submission Deadline
Friday, 15th December 2023
The European Association for the Study of Obesity (EASO) and the Novo Nordisk Foundation have announced an Obesity Prize for Excellence. This new award recognizes outstanding research or technological contributions to the understanding of obesity, its aetiology, complications, prevention and treatment. The prize is supported by a grant of DKK 2,000,000; DKK 300,000 of which is a personal grant to the winner.

ROYAL SOCIETY SPECIAL JOURNAL PUBLICATION ANNOUNCED
A special 2-part issue focused on obesity. The journal issue, from Philosophical Transactions B, is titled Causes of obesity: theories, conjectures and evidence which has been compiled and edited by John R Speakman, Thorkild IA Sørensen, Kevin D Hall and David B Allison.

SWEET Consortium position: WHO guideline on non-sugar sweeteners
The World Health Organization (WHO) recently issued a “conditional recommendation” on non-sugar sweeteners (NSS), sparking discussions and concerns regarding their potential impact on human health.
This guideline is based on a comprehensive systematic review of Randomized Controlled Trials (RCTs) and particularly observational studies, which advise against using NNS for weight control.

Bio-Streams, a new Horizon Europe Research and Innovation project designed to address the growing epidemic of underage obesity in the European Union, is excited to announce its official launch.
This groundbreaking project combines data-driven research, prevention measures and community participation to provide a holistic approach to reducing obesity rates among children and adolescents.
PREVENT EU
Proactive Strategies for Addressing Childhood Obesity and reducing Future Cancer Risks
EASO is delighted to partner with the European Health Management Association in a new project, PREVENT — improving and upscaling primary prevention of cancer by addressing childhood obesity through implementation research.
TIMESPAN
EASO is pleased to support this 5 year EU funded H2020 initiative. TIMESPAN, led by scientific coordinator Professor Henrik Larsson (Örebro University), includes 17 partners from across academia, industry, and patient advocacy communities, and aims to foster improvement in clinical management of adults living with with ADHD and co-occurring cardiometabolic disease, including obesity.
