Please tell us a bit about yourself

I studied Medicine at Oxford University, having always loved science at school, and found that I became particularly interested in physiology during my degree. After graduating and completing my basic medical training in both London and Oxford, I specialized in Cardiology before taking some time out to study for a PhD focused on heart function and obesity, which I completed over the past year or so.

We would love to learn more about where you currently live

I live with my family just outside Oxford, which is a beautiful and inspiring place to live!

Your exciting new research has shown that intentional weight-loss for patients in cardiac failure leads to significant improvement in heart function. How did you come to enter the field and what made you interested in the relationship between cardiac function and obesity?

The impact of obesity on heart function is an area which combines several of my interests, including imaging the heart and understanding more about its physiology on a cellular level. The significance of the changes which are brought about by obesity is profound, and yet hugely underappreciated in the cardiology community. It is really exciting to see that addressing obesity may provide a realistic treatment strategy in the fight against heart failure.

What are your future career plans?

I am fortunate to be able to continue my research career, in my current role as an Academic Clinical Lecturer in Cardiology in Oxford, and hope to continue to investigate the boundaries between metabolic disease and heart failure.

Aside from your professional interests, what are your hobbies and interests?

Aside from combining research, teaching, clinical work and family life(!), I enjoy running and gardening.
