EASO Joins Global Organisations in Announcing the new World Obesity Day 4th March 2020

Colleagues and friends across Europe and beyond have joined us in previous efforts to support European Obesity Day. In 2020, EASO joins with organisations across the world to support a unified global obesity day.  Please note the change of date!

The new World Obesity Day is a global campaign engaging regional and national campaigns and local activities and events. Organisations around the world will acknowledge our unified efforts on 4th March 2020. Together, we can change the narrative around obesity.

EASO Policy Conference

The European Association for the Study of Obesity (EASO) invites you to attend our annual conference, held on World Obesity Day.

Wednesday, 4 March 2020

This high-level conference focuses on the European obesity epidemic and the crucial role and impact of prevention and treatment.

Chaired by John Bowis, former UK Minister of Health and former MEP and MP, speakers and participants include representatives from the EU Institutions, OECD, WHO, Member States, academia, healthcare professionals, disease and therapeutic associations, and patients.

Les Pensières At Fondation Mérieux, Annecy, France: 5-9 July 2020

EASO hosts a popular course which provides expert training for trainers across disciplines in the clinical management of obesity, and provides public health and patient perspectives. Last summer we hosted an excellent course in Annecy, France. There are limited funded places for this school in Annecy 5-9 July 2020. Course participation is by application.

Policy

European policy impacting obesity is a priority of EASO. The policy year culminates in an annual Europe-wide high level policy conference. KOLs in our Public HealthTask Force, Obesity Management Task Force and Childhood Obesity Task Force issue position papers and guidance on key issues in policy that impact obesity.


Clinical Management for Adults living with ObesityClinical Management for Adults Living with Obesity: Guidelines Published in Iceland

EASO is pleased to announce that the first set of clinical guidelines for obesity care have been issued by the Icelandic health directorate. This is a landmark moment for obesity activists and clinicians treating patients living with obesity in Iceland.

Early Career Researcher Award In Hydration ScienceCall for Abstracts: Early Career Researcher Award in Hydration Science

The Hydration for Health team announces that the call for abstracts for the Hydration for Health Early Career Researcher Award is open until 10th April 2020. Finalist candidates will receive a travel grant to pitch their research at the 12th Hydration for Health Conference on 24th June 2020. Any research related to hydration is welcome.

EASO develops high quality education and training resources for clinicians and HCPs working in obesity treatment and care. Educational tools include an open access eTraining platform in multiple languages, guidelines, slides decks, webcasts and standardised course content.

Professor Jens Christian HolmSuccess in Treatment Against the Odds: The Children’s Obesity Clinic, Holbaek, Denmark

A new study from The Children’s Obesity Clinic in Holbaek, Denmark shows that obesity-related disturbed eating patterns including meal skipping, rapid eating, comfort eating and overeating were not associated with treatment response using the clinic TCOCT protocol.

Important new Guidelines Published

We are pleased to announce the publication of European expert guidelines on a minimal core set of variables to include in randomised, controlled clinical trials of obesity interventions in Obesity Facts, the European Journal of Obesity.  Read the interview with Martine Laville, lead author of the guidelines.

Dr Gijs GoossensInterview with Dr Gijs Goossens

Dr. Gijs Goossens is an Associate Professor in the Department of Human Biology, Maastricht University Medical Centre, The Netherlands. His main research focus is the role of adipose tissue dysfunction in the pathophysiology of obesity-related insulin resistance humans. He recently published high impact research in Obesity Facts, the European Journal of Obesity.
