ADVOCATING ON OBESITY WORKSHOP SERIES

Offered between Monday, 29 August and Friday, 9 September 2022

  • 2-hour multi-stakeholder sessions will cover:
  • fundamentals of policy advocacy for beginners
  • how to engage with policymakers and other key stakeholders
  • advocacy tools and techniques

Alongside sharing the EASO Advocacy Handbook, this workshop series will equip organisations across stakeholder groups working on obesity with the tools, resources and skills to develop and implement their own advocacy strategies and better fulfil their policy objectives.

EASO Collaborating Centres for Obesity Management (COMs) members are eligible to participate with no registration fee.

Limited free accommodation is available – one person per COM – on a first come, first served basis. (Registered participants will organise and cover their own travel costs to Istanbul).

ASCEND IN BARCELONA: TRAINING OPPORTUNITY 🇪🇸

Apply to join an upcoming training in obesity management with the team from the Hospital Clínic de Barcelona.

The ASCEND Global Obesity Training Centre Programme educates health-care professionals in Spain who wish to develop the knowledge and skills required to establish and operate a specialist multidisciplinary obesity treatment centre. Team members are encouraged to apply together. The training will be held in Spanish.

NORDIC OBESITY MEETING IN COPENHAGEN 🇩🇰

17-19 NOVEMBER 2022

EASO is delighted to endorse and support the 2022 Nordic Obesity Meeting, hosted by the Danish Association for the Study on Obesity (DSAF). The conference brings together medical doctors, dieticians and other health care professionals alongside obesity researchers across focus areas.

The meeting will provide an opportunity for early career investigators to present their research findings. Abstract submission closes on September first.

Les Pensieres Foundation for Global Health in Annecy, France was a beautiful setting for the 2022 EASO Summer School course in the clinical management of obesity and obesity in public health and policy. SARCOPENIC OBESITY: UNDERSTANDING ASSESSMENT AND DEVELOPING DIAGNOSTIC CRITERIA

The lack of universally-recognized diagnostic criteria for sarcopenic obesity (SO) clearly hampers patient identification, reliable assessment of SO prevalence, as well as the assessment of SO-related outcomes.
We congratulate the teams at ESPEN and EASO who worked to develop a consensus on this important challenge. Stay tuned for additional factsheets to promote key aspects of nutrition and metabolism.

EARLY CAREER RESEARCHER EVENT AT UK CONGRESS ON OBESITY 🇬🇧

THE U.K. ASSOCIATION FOR THE STUDY OF OBESITY

6th September 2022

Ahead of UKCO 2022, the UK Congress on Obesity, ASO will host an event for early career researchers (ECRs) on 6th September 2022 at Lancaster University. The event will include career progression talks from academia, public health and industry perspectives and workshops on relevant transferrable skills (view the programme).

SWEET PROJECT

SWEET, a European Commission Horizon 2020 funded project, is supported by a consortium of 29 pan-European research, consumer and industry partners, who are in the process of reviewing and developing evidence on long term benefits and potential risks involved in switching over to sweeteners and sweetness enhancers (S&SEs) in the context of public health and safety, obesity, and sustainability.
