Albert Lecube

Dr. Albert Lecube graduated in Medicine and Surgery from the Central University of Barcelona in 1993, conducted his residence in Endocrinology and Nutrition in the Vall d’Hebron University Hospital from 1995 to 1999, and received his Medicine Doctor in 2005. From 1997 he is an active member of the Diabetes and Metabolism Research Group of Vall d’Hebron Research Institut (VHRI), coordinated by Dr. Rafael Simó, and also belongs to the CIBERDEM, a Spanish network of diabetes research groups of excellence. From July 2005 to February 2013, he managed the Obesity Unit of the Endocrinology Department in the Vall d’Hebron University Hospital, coordinating all bariatric surgery procedures and the investigational areas derived from it. In addition, from 2011 to 2014 he led the Group for the Study of Obesity of the Spanish Endocrinology and Nutrition Society. From June 2011 he has been one of three Editors of the Endocrinología y Nutrición, journal. Dr. Albert Lecube has twice received the Prize for Young Investigators in Endocrinology from the Foundation of the Spanish Society of Endocrinology and Nutrition as well as the “Carrasco i Formiguera” Prize sponsored from the Spanish Diabetes Society recognizing his relevant role in diabetes investigation. Dr. Albert Lecube has contributed to numerous important publications on national and international level. He has been invited as a speaker at various courses, seminars, and congresses. At the same time, he has participated both as principal and collaborator investigator in several national and international research studies. Recently, one of his main areas of expertise has focused in sleeping breathing disorders and pulmonary function in obese and type 2 diabetic subjects. From February 2013 he moved to the Arnau de Vilanova University Hospital, in Lleida, as the Head of the Endocrinology and Nutrition Department. Finally, from September 2013 he is also Full Professor in the University of Lleida.
