EASO supports the European Cancer Organisation

Collaboration is a key theme emerging from 2020 and real change can only happen in partnerships. This is why EASO is delighted to have recently joined the European Cancer Organisation, a federation of Member societies working at the European level and advocating for positive change.

EASO stands in solidarity with the cancer community and supports calls for multidisciplinary and patient-centered care. A coordinated and holistic approach in Europe’s Beating Cancer plan and ensuring all stakeholders are involved is paramount to achieve ambitious goals. As the voice of the obesity community in Europe, EASO greatly welcomes this opportunity of joining the European Cancer Organisation and is ready to support.

Obesity and cancer have been identified in the European Commission’s 2020 Foresight Report as top challenges and priorities in the coming period and for the resilience and strengthening of healthcare systems. Obesity is estimated to account for up to 20% of preventable adult cancers, including cancers of the colon, rectum, breast, endometrium, liver, and kidney. The correct treatment and management of obesity as a non-communicable disease could therefore have considerable impact on cancer morbidity, mortality and quality of life.

EASO looks forward to working with the European Cancer Organisation and making meaningful impact for patients, people, and society.
