Clinical Care of Obesity and Hypertension:Free Registration

The European Association for the Study of Obesity and the International Society of Hypertension will come together at The Royal College of Physicians on 8 May 2018 to explore the latest developments and techniques in the treatment of cardiovascular disease and its emerging correlation with obesity. Our invited faculty will deliver this thought-provoking, intense and informative programme including a mix of keynote presentations, discussing the way these themes can be applied in everyday practice.

EASO COMs Exchange and Mentoring Programme

Obesity is recognised as one of Europe’s priority health challenges, however specialised obesity services are not widely available and obesity care can therefore vary enormously across European regions. The EASO Exchange and Mentoring Programme provides a solution by supporting the establishment of centres that improve access to and delivery of care.

You can apply to the COMs Mentoring Programme on the EASO website. The first application phase has begun and will continue through April.


European Obesity Policy Conference

EOD2018

Interested in obesity policy? Registration is now open for the May 2018 European Obesity Policy Conference.

The EASO European Policy Conference on Obesity takes place in Brussels on 17 May 2018.The conference will focus on the need for adequate education, treatment and care for people with obesity and is timed to be held in conjunction with European Obesity Day 2018, which takes place two days later on 19 May.

East Med Train the Trainer

Obesity is recognised as one of the priority health challenges in Europe and the east Mediterannean region, however specialised obesity training is not widely available. Obesity care and public health strategies can therefore vary enormously across these regions. EASO education programmes provide a solution by offering comprehensive training for health professionals working in the prevention and management of obesity.

We will be hosting a Train the Trainers session 23-24 September, 2018 at the Polat Renaissance Hotel Istanbul, Turkey.

Jamie Oliver is using his powerful brand identify to champion a campaign targeting the marketing of unhealthy food to children. In conjunction with the UK All Party Parliamentary Group on Obesity (APPG on Obesity), the campaign urges Government to enact a 9pm watershed on advertising “junk food,” to reduce advert exposure to children – on TV, online, in the streets and on public transport – to make it easier for children and their families to make healthier food choices.

People, Health and Food Systems: The 2018 N8 AgriFood Conference

EASO is pleased to announce the annual N8 AgriFood conference People, Health and Food Systems, an important event focused on innovation and sustainability in food systems. Held in Liverpool 13-14 June, the conference brings together researchers, industry participants and other stakeholders together to look at sustainable food systems, supply chain resilience, improved consumption practices and public health.

Project MetaCardis: Interview with Project Coordinator Karine Clément

We are pleased to interview Professor Karine Clément, who leads the important multinational, multidisciplinary project MetaCardis. This major multi-year EU-funded research project investigates the role of gut microbes in cardiometabolic diseases (CMDs), including obesity. The main investigatory approach is metagenomics and the use of clinical and experimental studies.

EASO Media Masterclass at ECO2018: theme and speakers

EASO is delighted to host a Media Masterclass on obesity and bias at EC0 2018. This event for media will be held on Thursday, 24 May 2018 in room 2.32/33 at the Vienna Congress Centre between 4:15 and 5:30 PM local time.

We have organised an excellent group of international speakers for this live- streamed event on media, bias and obesity stigma, Including Joe Nadglowski and Ted Kyle from the USA, Ximena Ramos Salas from Canada and Barbara Andersson from Austria.

You can register interest on the EASO website. For those unable to attend the event in person, there will be a live-stream of the event available.


Media Event at EuroPrevent 2018

EASO was delighted to host a joint media masterclass with EAPC in Ljubljana, Slovenia on 20 April, 2018 at the EuroPrevent Congress. The event explored key issues across the life course in preventive cardiology, with talks at the intersection of obesity and cardiovascular health. Presentations from experts in adult, adolescent and paediatric health, the microbiome and obesity and cardiovascular disease prevention contributed to this session, which was live streamed globally for media, and included Dr Jennifer Baker, Dr Dominique Durrer, Professor Christine Graf and Dr Irena Rogelj.

Become a Part of the EASO New Investigators United Consortium

EASO New Investigators United was established in 2005 and acts as an informal community for new investigators to collaborate on projects and to share experiences and expertise. The NIU initiative combines an online community with an annual event at the ECO, where new investigators have an opportunity to meet, interact and share ideas with colleagues from around the world.

European Association Award: European Obesity Day Policy Conference

EASO is delighted to announce that the EASO Policy Conference 2017 – “Implementing national obesity policies and action plans in Europe” was awarded third place at the 2018 European Association Awards for “Best Association Conference with less than 225 Delegates”.

Following on from this successful event, EASO is organising another conference, the EASO Policy Conference 2018 this year, focused on “Obesity Policy in Europe: the need for Education, Treatment and Care” taking place Thursday 17th May at the Renaissance Hotel in Brussels; to register please follow instructions on the event page

Weight loss maintenance is difficult. The NoHoW project is helping people learn how to do it. ECO 2019 in Glasgow: Save the Dates

We are delighted to host the 2019 European Congress on Obesity, #ECO2019, 28 April – 1 May 2019 at the Scottish Event Campus in Glasgow.

If you are currently working on clinical trials or research projects, #ECO2019 will be the perfect place to showcase your work. We will call for symposia suggestions and abstracts in Autumn 2018, so please schedule your presentation/publication strategy accordingly
